About this job

About us:

The Licensing team is a highly professional, supportive and collaborative work environment that values teamwork, trust and continuous learning. Team members bring a wealth of regulatory knowledge and experience and are committed to helping one another succeed.

We work closely together to test ideas, share insights and ensure consistency in our decision-making. This collaborative approach not only strengthens regulatory outcomes but also provides excellent opportunities to build technical expertise in legislation, regulatory practice and administrative decision-making.

Your Opportunity:

The Senior Regulatory Officer role in Licensing centres on making evidence-based regulatory decisions that support quality outcomes for children and families across Queensland.

The role primarily involves assessing applications for education and care providers and services, reviewing documentary evidence, and determining whether applicants meet the legislative requirements to hold approvals under the Education and Care Services National Law (Queensland) and National Regulations. Officers apply legislation, policy and regulatory frameworks to analyse information, identify risks and make recommendations that support sound administrative decision-making and safe, high-quality outcomes for children.

Regulatory officers in the licensing team enjoy a mixture of desk based and field work. Officers enjoy flexible working conditions, including opportunities to work from home and access to flex time/ADO.

You will be supported by experienced Principal Regulatory Officers and Managers who are committed to your professional development and success. Teams maintain regular formal and informal opportunities to discuss complex matters, share knowledge, and work through challenges collaboratively.

Responsibilities Include:

It would be highly desirable to have the following skills and experience:

  • Regulatory experience in a government context, with experience in licensing functions particularly welcome.
  • Ability to understand and apply legislation to inform recommendations, with demonstrated experience in administrative decision making. Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, manage difficult conversations and develop professional and constructive relationships with stakeholders.
  • Experience of risk assessment and prioritising workloads based on risk, and ability to develop and implement effective and efficient processes and systems to achieve work outcomes.
  • Knowledge of, or experience in, early childhood education and care would be advantageous but is not essential.

About You:

  • Integrity, sound judgment and willingness to take accountability for work performance.
  • Attention to detail and ability to provide accurate, well-argued and evidenced recommendations.
  • Enquiring mind – ability to weigh and consider evidence, consider alternatives and test assumptions.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and commitment to high standards of customer service.
  • Courage to make sometimes difficult recommendations to senior delegates, and to engage respectfully and constructively with colleagues and stakeholders in the development of advice.
  • Commitment to ensuring outcomes for children and continuous quality improvement in regulatory practice.
