About the Maximising Learning Team:
- The Metropolitan South Region's Maximising Learning Team is a multi-disciplinary team dedicated to enhancing student engagement and learning, with a primary focus on Prep-Year 2 (Starting Strong) and Year 7-9 (On Track for Success).
- Comprising Deputy Principals, Senior Guidance Officers, Senior Education Officers, Senior Speech Language Pathologists, Senior Occupational Therapist and Senior Physiotherapist, this team takes a holistic, wrap-around approach that addresses both individual student needs and the broader school context.
- The team provides intensive, targeted and individualised support at a student and whole-school level, working closely with school leaders and teachers to strengthen capability. By collaborating and supporting schools to develop sustainable practices, the team enhances engagement and learning outcomes across the region.
About the role:
The successful applicant will contribute to the school priorities identified in Equity and Excellence with a specific focus on the Starting Strong priority area. You will be required to support school leaders with strategies to maximise learning for students through individualised and differentiated student support, whole school systems and processes and capability development of school staff.
Responsibilities include:
- Support students to achieve their potential using evidence-based contemporary occupational therapy knowledge and frameworks to assist schools to identify and make reasonable adjustments and implement inclusive teaching strategies.
- Collaborate with schools, the designated supervising Occupational Therapist and other service providers to assess barriers to student learning, and develop and implement occupational therapy services and interventions across schools including complex and specialist interventions where required.
- Provide occupational therapy services of a complex and varied nature where occupational therapy principles, procedures, techniques or methods frequently require adaptation or modification, with clinical decisions based on valid and reliable evidence.
- Participate as a member of the school team, in the planning and management of at-risk behaviours of students with the aim of preventing the use of restrictive practices, in accordance with the department's Restrictive Practices procedure and associated guidelines.
