Senior Occupational Therapist (Clinical)
This is a temporary position until 12 December 2025, unless otherwise determined. If applying from a school, please ensure you have sought approval for release from your Manager or Principal prior to applying.
The ideal candidate will possess extensive experience in applying evidence-based occupational therapy practices within a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) framework, specifically related to behaviour. The successful applicant will also exhibit strong leadership skills in facilitating professional learning and building capability, including providing high-level coaching to school staff, to ensure equitable outcomes for all students within a proactive, tiered behavioural support system.
The position will be based in the Cairns Regional Office within the State Schooling team and will require travel across the region to facilitate the program outcomes.
Appointments in the public sector are merit-based and will be assessed by looking at what you have done previously—the knowledge, skills and experience you have built, your potential for development, and your personal qualities.
Responsibilities include:
- Provide training and support to other state school occupational therapists to build capacity and promote and ensure best practice in occupational therapy service delivery.
- Facilitate group supervision on clinical topics.
- Provide professional advice to the Principal Advisor, Therapies and Nursing, schools, and other stakeholders on policies, systems, and practices related to the delivery and continuous improvement of occupational therapy services within schools.
- Provide expert clinical advice to others across the region on specific or specialised clinical areas of occupational therapy.
- Participate in service planning at a whole school and regional level.
- Maintain effective communication and collaboration networks with school and regional team members, including occupational therapists, to facilitate knowledge and resource sharing of specific or specialised clinical areas of occupational therapy.
