About the Role

The main responsibilities of the Senior Lawyer role include the following:

  • Managing applications made under the National Redress Scheme by applicants who have experienced institutional child sexual abuse, including conducting searches, analysing records and drafting responses to the Department of Child Safety, Seniors and Disability Services as lead agency for the Queensland Government group of participating institutions, and assisting with the preparation of Direct Personal Responses on behalf of the Department
  • Managing claims brought under the Personal Injuries Proceedings Act 2002 against the Department in relation to sexual abuse and serious physical abuse, including conducting searches and enquiries and liaising with the Queensland Government Insurance Fund and external legal providers
  • In addition, the role advises on general legal advice matters across the Department in accordance with the attached Role Description
