About the Role:
As the Senior Guidance Officer - Wellbeing, you will:
- Coordinate and support guidance and counselling services across a circuit of secondary schools, delivered through Guidance Officers - Wellbeing (GO-W)
- Provide clinical and technical supervision to GO-Ws within your circuit, ensuring safe, ethical and effective practice
- Work in partnership with Principals and school teams to support student wellbeing, mental health and engagement outcomes
- Deliver direct guidance services, including complex case intervention and support
- Support case consultation and coordinated responses, including alignment to Single Line Referral (SLR) processes
- Build capability of GO-Ws through coaching, modelling and professional learning
- Strengthen consistency of practice including documentation and information sharing
- Facilitate multidisciplinary collaboration
- Support risk assessment, escalation and intervention planning for students with complex needs
- Contribute to a cohesive and collaborative workforce culture, strengthening alignment across wellbeing and guidance teams
Mandatory requirements eligibility for teacher registration in Queensland and qualifications aligned to Senior Guidance Officer eligibility, AND one of the following:
- Completed coursework Masters majoring in guidance and counselling, or equivalent including psychoeducational assessment, counselling and mental health; OR
- General or provisional registration as a psychologist through AHPRA; OR
- An APAC-accredited four- or five-year psychology qualification enabling general registration following a board approved internship or accredited sequence of study.
Highly desirable skills and experience:
- Experience in secondary school settings
- Demonstrated experience in clinical/technical supervision, coaching or leadership of guidance staff
- Strong understanding of guidance and counselling practice, including student mental health, engagement and wellbeing
- Experience in complex case management and interagency collaboration
- Ability to navigate legislative and information sharing requirements in school contexts
- Accreditation and current competency in administering and interpreting assessments such as the WISC-V and BASC-3
- Knowledge of evidence-based counselling interventions relevant to school-based practice
The Student Wellbeing Workforce in Metropolitan South Region is a multidisciplinary team including Guidance Officers - Wellbeing, Psychologists, Social Workers and Youth Workers, working in partnership with schools to support student wellbeing, engagement and mental health through coordinated, guidance-informed practice.
This role strengthens school support where complexity and demand is increasing, guidance practice and supervision across the GO-W circuit, and collaboration across multidisciplinary teams.
