The Infrastructure Finance team within the Business Support Services Unit provides strategic and operational financial advice and support for the Division.

Your Role:

The Senior Finance Officer within the Infrastructure Division of the Queensland Department of Education plays an important role in managing the financial aspects of the department's infrastructure assets. This position requires a meticulous approach to financial management, a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles, and a commitment to supporting the effective delivery of educational infrastructure across Queensland.

Some of the key responsibilities for this role will include:

  • Take the lead in developing and maintaining systems, procedures, and training materials to enhance understanding and operation of asset accounting, reporting, and management within the department. This includes ensuring that staff are well-equipped to handle asset-related tasks effectively.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements governing the accounting treatment of infrastructure assets, including taxation, financial reporting, and asset management standards. This involves staying up-to-date with relevant regulations and implementing necessary controls to meet compliance standards.
  • Collaborate with other teams to provide holistic support services and promote effective use of departmental facilities and resources. This includes working cross-functionally to ensure seamless financial processing and support services across various transactions.
  • Implement and monitor systems, practices, and procedures aimed at improving asset recording, accounting, and management. This involves continuously evaluating existing processes and making enhancements to optimize asset management practices.

The ideal candidate will possess:

  • Previous experience in asset accounting, preferably within a government or large organization, showcasing your ability to manage and maintain financial records related to assets effectively
  • Proficiency in accounting standards, taxation laws, and financial regulations relevant to infrastructure assets, ensuring compliance and accuracy in asset management practices.
  • Ability to use financial management systems like SAP, Oracle, or similar platforms, along with advanced Excel skills for data analysis and reporting.
  • Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail, enabling you to interpret complex financial data, provide actionable insights, and contribute to budgeting concepts and strategies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders, present workshops to small groups and management, and contribute to a positive team environment.
