About the Role
As the Senior Education Officer (EOSD), you will:
- Develop and operationalise strategic initiatives to support guidance and counselling services by providing specialist expertise and services to senior management on a range of strategies.
- Coordinate and support the provision of guidance and counselling services to schools in consultation with Principals.
- Participate in a range of project teams to implement strategies by understanding and ensuring compliance with the legislation and policies that impact on initiatives.
- Develop and implement a system of clinical and technical supervision in collaboration with Principals to ensure that guidance practices are appropriate.
You will have responsibility for leading the following activities and delivery of the following key tasks:
- Contribute to the development of statewide Intensive Support Services, including responsibility for establishing and delivering a Parent Liaison Service (PLS) to support work aligned to the Equity and Excellence: realising the potential of every student strategy.
- Coordinate and maintain the provision of professional development in relation to guidance and counselling related skills.
- Provide direct guidance services to students as determined through consultation with Principals.
- Work with Principals and school-based guidance officers to ensure the effective provision of guidance and counselling services directly to students.
- Provide specialist consultancy advice between schools and families for positive engagement of students.
- Facilitate parents and carers to access and understand relevant information on department policies and procedures.
- Assist parents and carers to navigate and understand the Queensland education system.
- Develop resources to support positive parent and carer engagement in schools, with tailored materials for teachers, teacher aides, school leaders and families.
About You
Highly regarded skills, attributes and experience:
- Experience in guidance and counselling or student behaviour support in schools.
- Proven experience in the delivery of adult professional learning.
- A demonstrated strong ability to develop sensitive and practical responses to complex issues and the ability to provide advice to senior staff where issues of quality, timeliness, sensitivity and confidentiality are paramount.
Mandatory Requirements:
- You must be a permanent employee of the department with a substantive teaching or classified officer role employed under Teaching in State Education Award - State 2016, have current full registration as a teacher and should be aware that temporary internal moves for the purposes of the department's payroll processes are referred to as internal secondments.
- Employees' engaged temporarily as Education Officer - Special Duties have a requirement of 36¼ hours per week attendance and arrangements as outlined in clause 7.4 of the Department of Education State School Teachers Certified Agreement 2019.
- When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
