As an EOSD Head of Department and key curriculum and teaching and learning leader within the Queensland Virtual Academy (QVA) leadership team, you will play a key role in leading and managing identified areas of learning within the establishment and the expansion of the QVA.

The QVA is a state-wide, cohesive approach to increasing equity in student access to curriculum pathways, learning opportunities, and teaching expertise. The QVA enhances access to learning opportunities for students regardless of where they live by leveraging digital and virtual learning. The QVA:

  • is a virtual education service for students requiring a specific curriculum subject or learning program unavailable at their base school;
  • will be established under Section 14 of the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 (the Act) as an education institution to offer educational instruction to students enrolled at a school, as an adjunct to the educational programs provided at their Queensland school;
  • is not a school in the traditional sense or as defined under the Act;
  • supports, connects and coordinates available teacher expertise and quality learning programs, and makes these accessible to more students across Queensland; and
  • promotes innovation in virtual learning and develops supporting resources and systems for schools and teachers to use in their own contexts.

In this role you will work with a range of teachers within QVA partner delivery schools, and students and teachers of QVA recipient schools, to enable innovative approaches, and build teacher curriculum and instructional capability in the provision of learning opportunities for students within a virtual and digital learning context.

About the Role

As an EOSD Head of Department, under the direction of the Principal or delegate, you will:

  • Lead, build and manage a high performing curriculum and teaching and learning team, to develop state-wide delivery strategies that foster high quality practices, instructional leadership, innovation and deliver quality learning outcomes.
  • Lead curriculum and digital teaching and learning focus in line with QVA and departmental initiatives.
  • Participate in delivering the vision for the QVA.
  • Develop the quality teaching and learning, particularly digital and virtual learning, to embed for future-focused learning practices that connect students and teachers across Queensland.

Mandatory Requirements: 

  • You must be a permanent employee of the department with a substantive teaching or classified officer role employed under Teaching in State Education Award - State 2016, have current full registration as a teacher and should be aware that temporary internal moves for the purposes of the department's payroll processes are referred to as internal secondments. 
  • Employees' engaged temporarily as Education Officer - Special Duties have a requirement of 36¼ hours per week attendance and arrangements as outlined in clause 5.12 of the Department of Education State School Teachers' Certified Agreement 2022
  • When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
