About the Department of Education:

The Department of Education employs over 900 allied health professionals who work in state schools. Our physiotherapists and occupational therapists play a critical role in supporting all students to access an equitable education and succeed.

Your Role:

This is a temporary role until 27 December 2025, unless otherwise determined. Location would be negotiated with successful applicant/s.

Responsibilities include:

  • Build professional capability and capacity of the occupational therapy and physiotherapy therapy workforce to implement restrictive practices policy, procedure and guidelines with fidelity.
  • Develop and implement statewide programs and initiatives for school based occupational therapists and physiotherapists to support the implementation of relevant departmental procedures and guidelines relevant to restrictive practices, with the aim of reducing and eliminating, as far as practicable, the use of restrictive practices.
  • Provide professional advice to Statewide Clinical Managers (Occupational Therapy and Physiotherapy), supervising therapists, and school-based occupational therapists and physiotherapists on policies, systems and practices related to the occupational therapists' and physiotherapists' roles in implementing evidence-based approaches in the use of restrictive practices and, as far as practicable, the reduction and elimination of these practices.
  • Contribute to development of relevant data collection and analysis to demonstrate the impact of the occupational therapists' and physiotherapists' roles in reducing and eliminating specific restrictive practices.
  • Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders in developing and promoting the occupational therapy and physiotherapy roles within a multi-tiered system of support to improve the safety and wellbeing of students and staff.
  • Provide evidence based occupational therapy or physiotherapy service to students and schools within your discipline specific allocated clinical caseload.
