About the Role:
The Queensland Department of Education's speech language pathology services works with schools to remove or reduce barriers to student attendance, participation and learning, by supporting schools to identify and implement reasonable adjustments. Through multi-tiered systems of support, the service assists schools to support student's communication, language and learning, including literacy skills.

As the Senior Advisor Speech Language Pathology, you will lead a team of school-based and supervisory speech language pathologists working in schools within the North Queensland Region. In this role you will provide strategic advice on policy development and implementation related to the speech language pathology services of your team. You will participate as a member of a statewide team contributing to the development of statewide programs, policies, operational standards and procedures to support speech language pathology services throughout the state. This role reports to the Director, Therapies and Nursing.

Responsibilities include:

  • Provide leadership and professional supervision to speech language pathologists, in collaboration with regional and school management in the delivery of safe, high quality speech language pathology services
  • Provide high level expert advice to inform strategic decision making in the development of policies, systems and practices related to speech language pathology services within the region
  • Provide strategic advice to the Director, Therapies and Nursing to inform strategic decision making on statewide speech language pathology service provision which enables the achievement of the department's Strategic Plan
  • Maintain effective communication and collaboration networks with state schools within the North Queensland region and across the state and with other relevant agencies and stakeholders such as other government departments and relevant professional bodies to achieve positive educational outcomes

About You:

  • Very high level of knowledge (or the ability to quickly acquire high level knowledge) of speech language pathology services in an educational context
  • Strong collaborative skills with the ability to work across a number of multidisciplinary teams
  • The ability to lead and manage a team working across a range of geographically diverse locations in an environment of complexity and ambiguity

Mandatory requirements:

  • Possession of a relevant degree in speech language pathology from a recognised tertiary institution or agreed equivalent which, in the opinion of the Director-General, Department of Education or delegate is acceptable and is relevant to the responsibilities of the role
  • Current certified practising speech pathologist or eligibility for certified practising speech pathologist membership with Speech Pathology Australia
  • This position may require the incumbent to operate a government vehicle and an appropriate license endorsement to operate this type of vehicle is required (Queensland ‘C” class license)
  • The incumbent is required to work and travel throughout the state and service area of North Queensland Region. Please note that overnight travel, including multiple consecutive nights is a requirement of this role
