Role Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate SEN Teaching Assistant to join a secondary school in Hamilton Square, Liverpool, supporting pupils with a range of additional needs.
The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff and the wider pastoral and SEN teams to provide tailored support both in the classroom and on a 1:1 or small-group basis.
This role would suit someone who is patient, proactive, adaptable, and passionate about helping young people overcome barriers to learning.
Key Responsibilities
Provide classroom support to secondary-aged pupils with a range of SEN needsSupport pupils on a 1:1 and small-group basis, both academically and pastorallyWork closely with teachers to deliver engaging and differentiated learning activitiesEncourage positive behaviour, emotional regulation, and social developmentHelp pupils overcome barriers to learning and engage positively with their educationSupport pupils with communication, confidence, independence, and self-esteemAssist with implementing EHCP targets and personalised learning strategiesBuild positive and trusting relationships with pupilsSupport the school's behaviour and safeguarding proceduresWork collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, pastoral staff, parents/carers, and external professionalsContribute to creating a safe, inclusive, structured, and supportive learning environmentRequirements
Previous experience working with children or young people with SEN is highly desirableExperience within a secondary school or similar educational setting is advantageousUnderstanding of needs such as ASD, ADHD, SEMH, communication difficulties, and cognition and learning needsA calm, patient, and nurturing approachStrong communication and interpersonal skillsConfident supporting positive behaviour and emotional regulationAbility to build strong, positive relationships with young peopleFlexible and adaptable approach to supporting pupils' individual needsLevel 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification desirable but not essentialEnhanced DBS on the Update Service, or willingness to obtain oneBenefits
