Veritas Education is currently recruiting for a dedicated and proactive SEN Teaching Assistant to join a supportive and inclusive primary school located on Bow Road. This is a long-term, full-time role providing 1:1 support for a lovely Year 1 girl with Down syndrome.

The Role

You will be working closely with a verbal Year 1 pupil who requires additional support to fully access the curriculum, build independence, and continue developing socially and academically within the classroom.

She is engaging and responds well to structure, encouragement, and consistent adult support. Your responsibilities will include:

  • Providing tailored 1:1 classroom support
  • Adapting learning activities to meet her individual needs
  • Supporting communication and social interaction
  • Assisting with daily routines and transitions
  • Encouraging independence while offering appropriate scaffolding
  • Working closely with the class teacher and SENCo to implement personalised strategies

    The Ideal Candidate

    The school is seeking someone who:

  • Has relevant experience supporting children with SEND
  • Ideally has experience working with children with Down syndrome
  • Has a good understanding of the KS1 curriculum
  • Is proactive and confident using their own initiative
  • Demonstrates patience, empathy, and consistency
  • Builds positive relationships with pupils and staff
  • Is comfortable adapting resources to support individual learning needs
  • The right candidate will be nurturing, enthusiastic, and committed to inclusive education.
