Job Description:

We are looking for a compassionate and dedicated 1:1 SEN Teaching Assistant to support a Year 1 student with special educational needs (SEN) at a primary school in Leyland. The successful candidate will work closely with the student to provide personalised support, ensuring they can fully engage with the curriculum and make progress in their learning journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 support: Work directly with a Year 1 student, offering tailored assistance to help them access lessons, participate in activities, and achieve their individual learning goals.

  • Adapt teaching strategies: Support the student in understanding and completing tasks, modifying teaching approaches to meet their specific needs.

  • Foster inclusion: Help create a positive and inclusive classroom atmosphere, ensuring the student feels supported and engaged in all activities alongside their peers.

  • Work with the SENCO: Collaborate with the SEN Coordinator (SENCO) and other staff to implement the student's Individual Education Plan (IEP), monitor progress, and make adjustments to strategies where necessary.

  • Provide emotional and social support: Support the student's social and emotional development, offering guidance and encouragement to build confidence and independence.

  • Monitor progress: Track the student's progress and report back to the class teacher, SENCO, and parents regularly, ensuring that the student's needs are being met and any challenges are addressed.

  • Personal care and mobility: If required, assist with personal care tasks or mobility needs, ensuring the student's comfort and well-being throughout the school day.

  • Requirements:

  • Previous experience working as a Teaching Assistant, ideally with experience supporting students with SEN.

  • A relevant qualification in Supporting Teaching and Learning or equivalent (e.g., Level 2 or 3).

  • Strong understanding of a range of special educational needs (e.g., autism, ADHD, speech and language difficulties) and experience using differentiated resources to support students' learning.

  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to build trusting relationships with students.

  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team and communicate effectively with students, colleagues, and parents.

  • Enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one).
