About this job

SEMH Teaching Assistant - September Start - Guildford Area

Make a Real Difference Every Day

Are you passionate about helping young people overcome barriers, build confidence and reach their potential?

We're looking for a caring, resilient and emotionally intelligent SEMH Teaching Assistant to join a specialist school in the Guildford area this September.

This is more than just a classroom support role. You'll work closely with young people who may experience anxiety, trauma, emotional regulation difficulties, behavioural challenges, ASD, ADHD and other additional needs, helping them feel safe, understood and ready to learn.

If you're someone who can stay calm when things get challenging, build genuine relationships and celebrate the small wins, this could be the role for you.

What You'll Be Doing

Every day will be different. You'll provide consistency, encouragement and support when pupils need it most.

Your role will include:

  • Providing 1:1 and small-group support for pupils with SEMH and additional needs.
  • Helping students access learning both in the classroom and throughout the school.
  • Building positive, trusting relationships with young people who may have experienced significant barriers to education.
  • Supporting pupils with emotional regulation, wellbeing and positive behaviour strategies.
  • Helping students develop confidence, independence and engagement with learning.
  • Working closely with teachers, therapists and other specialist staff.
  • Monitoring and recording pupil progress, behaviour and wellbeing.
  • Helping create a safe, structured and nurturing environment where pupils can thrive.
  • Who We're Looking For

You don't necessarily need to have followed a traditional education career path. We're interested in people who genuinely want to make a difference.

You could have experience in education, SEN, care, youth work, support work, residential settings or a similar environment.

We're looking for someone who is:

  • Calm, patient and emotionally intelligent.
  • Confident supporting young people with challenging behaviour and emotional needs.
  • Able to build strong, positive relationships with children and young people.
  • Resilient and able to remain composed in challenging situations.
  • A strong communicator and supportive team player.
  • Proactive, adaptable and willing to get involved.
  • Experienced with SEMH, SEN, ASD, ADHD or additional needs - desirable but not essential if you have relevant transferable experience.
  • Important: A Car Is Essential

You must hold a full UK driving licence and have access to your own car.

The school is based in a rural location that is not accessible by public transport, so applicants must be able to travel to the school independently.
