About Proserpine State High School
Located in Proserpine, part of the Whitsundays, Proserpine State High School is known for highly achieving staff working in a friendly and caring environment. Proserpine SHS is the only state high school in the local area and has been steadily growing towards an expected enrolment of approximately 1200 students in 2025.
About the Role
You will perform a range of activities to ensure that the school is maintained to a high standard; follow set instructions; and have independence to perform a variety of day to day services that are routine in nature. However, the role receives regular supervision when undertaking duties that are non-routine in nature.
Responsibilities include:
- Maintenance of school ovals and ground through regular mowing, watering and soil maintenance; lawn and garden maintenance, including regular weeding and the use of appropriate insecticides and fertilisers; plant, water and care for trees, shrubs, gardens; and undertake general maintenance of grounds care equipment such as mowers, brush cutters, tractors (as per manufacturers' service manuals) and arrange regular services.
- Ensure compliance with WHS requirements including maintenance of a safe work environment; safe storage and handling of chemicals, fertilisers and fuels (recording in Chemwatch);
- Coordinating the removal and/or disposal of rubbish as required (does not include emptying of bins);
- Attend to/or arrange repairs and maintenance within the school, including those which relate to fences, paving, gates and irrigation;
- Maintaining various accurate school registers and the use of computers with pre-established programs.
- Order and/or collect general grounds care/cleaning supplies as authorised;
- Prepare, mark and take general care of all outdoor sporting facilities (e.g. basketball, netball, cricket pitches, track and field areas whilst working closely with the Head of Department Physical Education).
- A member of the Event Management Team setting up and pack down of school nominated events.
- A member of the Health and Safety Committee.
About You
- Strong communicator, great time manager, experience with spreadsheeting for routine activity management (recording of irrigation programs, chemical use (Chemwatch) and Annual Safety Assessment with previous experience relevant to the role.
- Experience working outdoors (all weather conditions), managing time efficiently without direct supervision.
- Health and Safety Qualifications (HSA) would be an advantage.
- Agricultural Chemical Distribution Control (AC DC) Licence.
