The successful applicant will be appointed to the OO2 classification with eligibility for progression to the OO3 level once specific criteria have been met. About the School:

Capalaba State School opened on Mt Cotton Road in July, 1880 with 22 pupils and one teacher. The school grew rapidly and in 1884 there was an average attendance of 43. During this time, Capalaba supported a flourishing timber industry which later declined resulting in families leaving the district and the school was closed in 1922. Local support forced the reopening of the school in 1923, Capalaba State High School opened its doors to 189 Year 8 students in 1978.  The school was built to meet the needs of booming residential developments in the Redland Shire. In 2005, Capalaba State School amalgamated with Capalaba State High School to form Capalaba State College. The College includes a Junior Campus (Prep to Year Six), Senior Campus (Years Seven to Twelve), a Positive Learning Centre, an Early Childhood Development Program, Health Academy and Montessori stream of classes. Our mission is to engage students through a focused learning climate to achieve academic success.

About the Role:

Responsibilities include but not limited to:

  • Maintaining school grounds, including the maintenance of school ovals, grounds, gardens, regular blowing, mowing and watering.
  • Delivering and collecting mail, parcels and documents.
  • Regular service and general maintenance of grounds care equipment, such as mowers, brush cutters, tractors (as per manufacture's service manuals) or arrangement for service of equipment by approved providers.
  • Moving furniture around school and transporting classroom supplies to different locations within school.
  • Setting up for functions including seating in halls and equipment for sporting functions
  • Attend to/or arrange repairs and maintenance within the school, including those which relate to minor building maintenance tasks including graffiti removal.
  • Cleaning duties, that for various reasons such as health and hygiene, requires immediate action and cleaning staff are not rostered on duty when such duties are required.
  • Clearing of drains and gutters.
  • You will report directly to the Principals and or Business Manager.

  • Willingness to undertake specific training to enhance skills as necessary.
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships and rapport with a diverse range of people.
  • Ability to work independently, be self-motivated, proactive and show initiative.
  • Ability to maintain various accurate school registers and the use of computers with pre-established programs.
  • Excellent organisational, communication and time management skills.
  • Ability to think logically and solve problems
  • Proven experience working with machinery, including maintenance and record keeping.
  • Knowledge of or ability to gain knowledge of tools and equipment including school tractor.
  • Demonstrated awareness of HS&W requirements.
