The Cape York Aboriginal Australian Academy (CYAAA) is a partnership between the Department of Education and Good to Great Schools. Our vision is to deliver "best of both worlds" educational opportunities to our students, supporting their bicultural identity while preparing them for future success.
The Hopevale Campus is located approximately 370km north of Cairns and just under 50km north-west of Cooktown in the Indigenous community of Hopevale. The Coen Campus is situated on the northern end of the Great Dividing Range in the small town of Coen on the Peninsula Development Road (PDR) and is surrounded by mountains. The township is 240 km from Laura and approximately 580 km north-west of Cairns.

About the Role

The primary focus of this position is to establish connections with community representatives, fostering collaboration for co-design initiatives between the school and its community. It will support the Department of Education's Equity and Excellence Strategy through the Partnership Initiative project piloting the delivery of tailored and differentiated support to 42 regional, rural and remote Queensland schools.

The objective of the initiative is to enable schools to collaborate with community partners and government agencies to deliver locally responsive and integrated strategies.

Responsibilities Include, but are not limited to:

  • Manage key relationships to enhance planning and service delivery processes.
  • With the school leader you will influence a place-based approach in your school and community by collaborating with key partners and across government agencies to deliver locally responsive and integrated strategies to school and community challenges
  • Proven ability to prioritise, schedule and perform work to meet deadlines, commitments and client service standards.
  • Ability to participate in a work team and to undertake a variety of project activities.

Mandatory Requirements for and Identified Role:   

It is a genuine occupational requirement for Identified roles that the position be filled by an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person as set out in Section 7 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1991 for the purposes contained in Section 25 of that Act.   

Verification of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Island heritage   

For administrative purposes, in relation to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role, an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a person who identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is either:   

  • of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent;  
  • accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which he or she lives.   

By definition a person who is not an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cannot be employed (on any basis) to perform the duties of an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role.
