Boulia State School is located in outback Queensland, approximately 296 kilometres south of Mount Isa. The school provides a quality and well-rounded education for it's students.
Boulia is famous for The Min Min Lights and Camel Racing and embodies the rugged beauty of the Australian outback, with vast landscapes, cattle stations and a small but resilient community. Boulia has a rich Aboriginal Heritage with strong connections to the Pitta Pitta people, the traditional owners of the land.
About the Role
This role is centered on strengthening Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander involvement in education by fostering meaningful partnerships and co-designed initiatives. Key responsibilities include:
- Collaborating with the school community to develop and implement programs that amplify Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander voices in educational decision-making.
- Engaging Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander stakeholders to co-design solutions that reflect community needs and priorities.
- Supporting school leaders and community groups with strategies to enhance participation and access to culturally relevant resources and services.
- Providing insights on issues affecting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and advising on effective consultation and decision-making processes.
- Strengthening relationships between schools, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, and community organizations to support the Partnership Initiative.
- Working with inter-agency groups to address challenges impacting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students and families.
- Actively participating in professional networking and development to enhance cultural capability and community engagement
Mandatory Requirements for and Identified Role:
It is a genuine occupational requirement for Identified roles that the position be filled by an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person as set out in Section 7 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1991 for the purposes contained in Section 25 of that Act.
Verification of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Island heritage
For administrative purposes, in relation to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role, an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a person who identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is either:
- of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent;
- accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which he or she lives.
By definition a person who is not an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cannot be employed (on any basis) to perform the duties of an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role.
