What You Will Bring:

  • Strong communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and inspire non-Indigenous colleagues in cultural capability.
  • An understanding of educational systems and/or government institutions
  • Experience with social and emotional wellbeing of First Nations people
  • An understanding of factors influencing student engagement and belonging
  • Experience as a facilitator and understanding of historic and contemporary issues facing First Nations people in North Queensland or more broadly.
  • Passion and drive for life long learning
  • Ability to work across multidisciplinary teams

What You Will Do:

  • Create culturally safe practices and spaces in primary schools
  • Support and provide advice to school-based Community Education Counsellors in relation to students' wellbeing, attendance and engagement.
  • Develop and oversee support programs addressing engagement and belonging to enhance the educational participation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander primary school students.
  • Establish and maintain links with external bodies and support services to meet the needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
  • Provide advice on policies, operations and services to regional senior management.
  • Develop activities which promote productive partnerships between individual and group members of the regional educational community.
  • Coordinate, monitor and review state and commonwealth funded regional programs and leading and/or participating in regional, school and community-based teams.
  • Provide professional supervision of Community Education Counsellors working in schools.
  • Facilitate cultural capability sessions to departmental staff, educational leaders and schools.

Travel across the region will be required and a C class drivers license is mandatory.
