About the School:
Yarrabah State School caters for an indigenous student population enrolled from Pre-prep to year 10 across three separate campuses within the community of Yarrabah in Far North Queensland. Yarrabah is located 57 km south east of Cairns, over the Murray Prior Range. Our school has been recognised as a Centre of Excellence for Indigenous Education and is committed to providing high quality education for all students with a focus on achievement and continuous improvement. Students enrolled at the school live in the community proper or in the outlying areas including Reeves Creek, Mourigan, Oombunji Creek and Back Beach. Most students walk to school or ride a bike. Students in the outlying areas catch the school bus operated by the Yarrabah Council. Students at Yarrabah are currently all Indigenous.
About the Role:
The Empowering Yaburu Bandu (Girls Together) Program will support the aspirations of female students enrolled at Yarrabah State School Secondary Campus across all year levels, through engagement activities for both students, parents and female leaders within the wider community. The program aims to deliver activities that contribute to the wellbeing of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children, youth and adults.
The Program aims to achieve this outcome by providing opportunities for enrolled female students at Yarrabah State School to participate in activities and initiatives that harness positive influencing and empowerment strategies and providing support to students in achieving academic success and establishing pathways to a career of their choice.
The Project Officer must develop individual plans for each student, identifying each student's needs and goals and develop a strategy to achieve these goals under the categories of Achieving Academic Aspiration, Building Leadership Capacity, Developing Social Skills and Connecting to Community and Culture.
Responsibilities include:
- Resolve operational problems and assist in the development and implementation of initiatives, policies, processes and systems for effective and efficient administration of the project.
- Develop and maintain administrative systems and processes to maximise the effectiveness of project information,
- Assist in coordinating the implementation of policies, practices and procedures, relating to the project.
- Prepare reports and submissions on a range of specific project services and respond to related matters identified during the review process.
- Assist with the development and delivery of training for staff in the work unit.
This position is a Temporary Full-time role, for a period of 12 months unless otherwise determined.
