About the Role
As the Principal Program Officer, you will:
- Establish and cultivate effective relationships and networks with key stakeholders, Community Controlled Organisations and clients.
- Model and build team capability in effective and productive work practices to improve holistic educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Students, families and communities.
- Provide strategic advice in the delivery of key milestones and analysis about various systems, policy, projects and legislation relating to improving educational and other outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander children and young people.
- Display a strong understanding and experience in Contract Management and Procurement processes.
- Analyse organisational performance data to report on the extent to which the program and funding goals are being achieved and identify emerging trends and their likely impact on organisational performance.
- Have extensive use in Power BI, OneNote
Your role and responsibilities:
- Research and develop responses to significant initiatives, contributing to the development of major briefings, reports, submissions and advice for senior managers regarding programs delivered and funded by the department to support Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students.
- Prepare and review briefing material, correspondence and reports for the Minister, senior departmental officers, government agencies and other entities on issues related to the functional area of the branch at state, national and international levels.
- Identify, analyse and progress strategic issues and formulate innovative and workable solutions including through co-design, and strategic advice to senior managers regarding programs and funding.
- Overnight travel is a requirement of the position. (Regional and Remote locations)
Mandatory Requirements for and Identified Role:
It is a genuine occupational requirement for Identified roles that the position be filled by an Aboriginal person or a Torres Strait Islander person as set out in Section 7 of the Anti Discrimination Act 1991 for the purposes contained in Section 25 of that Act.
Verification of Aboriginality and/or Torres Strait Island heritage
For administrative purposes, in relation to an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role, an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person is a person who identifies as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person and is either:
- of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent;
- accepted as an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander person by the Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander community in which he or she lives.
By definition a person who is not an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander cannot be employed (on any basis) to perform the duties of an Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander identified role.
