About the Role

As the Principal Privacy Officer, responsibilities include:

  • Identify and make recommendations to address strategic and systemic privacy issues across the department.
  • Maintain currency of relevant legislation, caselaw, and skills in order to provide advice to senior stakeholders and departmental staff in relation to privacy management and compliance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 and associated Information Privacy Principles and other relevant privacy and other legislation including but not limited to the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth).
  • Develop and maintain privacy and information policy, standards, procedures and guidelines based on State and Federal legislative and regulatory requirements, State Government policy and directives, and industry better practice.
  • Maintain and communicate the department's privacy management plan for maturing the department's privacy management practices and identify the impact of any relevant legislative, regulatory or industry best practice changes on the department.

About You:

As the Principal Privacy Officer, you will work within a supportive team to:

  • Provide sound, practical and definitive policy, strategic and operational advice in relation to the department's privacy management and compliance with the Information Privacy Act 2009 and associated Information Privacy Principles and its statutory obligations under relevant privacy frameworks.
  • Maintain currency of State and Federal privacy legislation to research, analyse, investigate, manage, and respond to privacy matters including, but not limited to, privacy assessments, breaches and complaints, requests for advice, and the development and delivery of privacy training.
  • Supervise other privacy officers and manage some of the operational requirements of our growing privacy team.
