Position Information

St Ives High School is a comprehensive co-educational school situated on the North Shore of Sydney. It has a current enrolment of over 1700 students, with approximately 43% of students from non-English speaking backgrounds. The school has an Intensive English Centre and a Support Unit with two hearing support classes and a soon to be established Autism support class.

The school is committed to continually improving effective classroom practices with high-quality, context-specific staff professional learning being the key to ensuring this. The growth of students and staff is supported through embedded coaching practices, including the Students Coaching Students program which is highly regarded in the wider educational community. The school enjoys support from its P&C and broader community. Current areas of focus are: student growth and attainment; supporting a culture of continuous professional learning and improvement; and forging a kind, respectful and connected school community.

General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria,

1. A highly visible, approachable, organised and considered leader with demonstrated skills to develop and maintain clear and effective school systems and procedures in line with department policies and the focus areas of the NSW Department of Education’s Plan for Public Education. 

2. A proven ability to communicate with influence and an aspirational vision to drive high expectations, enabled through collaborative consultation and authentic partnerships, that results in whole-school programs focused on evidence-informed, differentiated practice to support growth for all students in the mainstream, Intensive English Centre and Support Unit settings.

3. Proven capacity to analyse and interpret a range of data sources and lead continuous improvement through the implementation of the Strategic Improvement Plan, including embedded evaluative practice, with demonstrated impact on student learning and wellbeing outcomes.

Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P5 for 2024.
