Position Information

Leichhardt Campus is a partially selective co-educational 7-10 campus of Sydney Secondary College (SSC.) The school has an enrolment of 824 students and includes a support unit with a designated Head Teacher for students with mild and moderate intellectual disabilities and autism. The student body consists of 21% of students from a Language Background Other Than English and 4.6%students from an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander background. All SSC Principals work together through the College Management Group to enact their responsibility for effective collegiate decision-making. Explicit Teaching is a central platform of the School Excellence Plan 2024-2027 and high expectations are placed on students’ academic achievement. The school provides an educational environment and learning atmosphere that is appropriate for the personal and social developmental needs of adolescents, including extensive transition programs, both from primary to high school, and to SSC Blackwattle Bay campus in Year 11. The encouragement of respect for everyone is promoted through the well-established Positive Behaviour for Learning program that is integral to all SSC campuses. A commitment to innovative, rigorous and future-focused education to build a culture of life-long learning for both students and teachers underpins the strategic directions of the school. There is a broad range of extracurricular sporting and performing arts opportunities including a College Instrumental Music Program which has 11 ensembles that perform regularly for school and community events. General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria,

Highly visible, proactive leadership characterised by demonstrated capacity to develop positive and productive partnerships with students, staff and the community to support school culture and student learning

Demonstrated leadership in promoting inclusion and positive wellbeing for a diverse student population (as outlined in the Position Information section) in a 7-10 context

Expertise in building skilled teaching practices through collaborative professional learning in explicit teaching to improve outcomes with a focus on HPGE, Aboriginal education, and students with disabilities and complex wellbeing needs

Proven capacity for flexibility and negotiation in order to work as part of the leadership team of four principals within the College

Demonstrated capacity to lead transition initiatives with partner primary schools, and from Stage 5 into Stage 6 or alternate pathways, to improve student opportunities

Conditions

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P4 for 2024 and also for 2025.
