Position Information
Kogarah High School is a vibrant co-educational secondary school in Sydney’s Metropolitan South with 688 students and a FOEI of 108. Representing more than 20 cultural backgrounds, 84% of students come from language backgrounds other than English and 20% receive EAL/D support. The school includes an Intensive English Centre, Hearing Support unit, a class for students with mild intellectual disabilities, and three autism support classes. A small number of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are enrolled.
The school is committed to inclusive, high-quality teaching and learning. An experienced staff works in close partnership with families to ensure measurable growth for every student. A strong Diverse Learning team provides targeted, evidence-informed support and enrichment for high potential and gifted students.
Flexible funding supports additional EAL/D and learning support teachers, reduced junior class sizes, and a broad senior curriculum. Professional learning focuses on collaborative practice, literacy, numeracy and data-informed teaching across all KLAs.
A strong wellbeing framework and authentic partnerships with families, universities, businesses and community groups support clear post-school pathways, complemented by a comprehensive VET program and strong sporting representation. General Selection Criteria
1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
Specific Selection Criteria

Proven visible leadership in a multicultural secondary school, building strong community partnerships and embedding culturally responsive, restorative practices that promote student voice and high expectations.
Demonstrated ability to lead collaborative, evidence-informed teaching and wellbeing, building staff capability and collective efficacy to achieve measurable growth for every student.
Visionary and evaluative leadership, using data and evidence to drive continuous improvement and excellence in teaching, learning and wellbeing.
Capacity to strengthen diverse post-school pathways, including university, VET, apprenticeships and employment outcomes for all students.
Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P4 for 2026.
