Position Information

Belmont High is a comprehensive, co-educational secondary school located in the eastern suburbs of Lake Macquarie. It is a proud member of the Wakul Karabang community of schools, and the Minimbah AECG who work closely to support the success of all students at Belmont High School. The school currently has 884 students, including 120 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. Belmont High’s P&C has small representation but are committed to supporting strong outcomes for students. The school represents a wide range of socio-economic backgrounds within the Belmont community and maintains close connections with its partner primary schools. 

Strengthening an inclusive and supportive culture, the school works collaboratively with Real Schools to enact transformational cultural change.

 The school has experienced great success in the Performing Arts, Sport, and Academic endeavours and is supported by staff with a diverse range of experience. Targeted programs supporting student potential, achievement, and wellbeing ensure that all students are offered opportunities for success at school and beyond.

General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

Specific Selection Criteria
  1. Demonstrated capacity to lead the department's initiatives and plan for public education to support student learning.
  2. Demonstrated capacity to manage and lead through complexity while enhancing a positive, collaborative, high expectations workplace.
  3. Evidence of visible leadership and community engagement which supports outstanding educational success and high expectations for all students.
  4. Demonstrated capacity to lead authentic learning experiences and connections to maximise a culture of learning for all students.
Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P4 for 2025.
