Position Information

Oberon High School is a small comprehensive high school serving a picturesque rural community approximately two hours west of Sydney and half an hour from Bathurst. Oberon's major employing industry is the production of timber and agriculture. 

The school has 204 students inclusive of 14% Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, 8% English as an Additional Language or Dialect students and 6% of students requiring additional support.

The school’s vision focuses on a student driven learning focus and a culture of high expectations, inspiring everyone to perform at their best. The school aims to work collaboratively with all members of the school community to provide enhanced opportunities for every student to succeed.

The school has an experienced staff and a small proportion of early career teachers. School priorities include quality teaching, increased use of technology, development of high expectations in all aspects of school life and extensive wellbeing programs. The school enjoys great community support with significant sponsorship of programs and events each year.

Extracurricular activities are very important to the life of the school and provide additional opportunities for students. These include sport, cultural, leadership and curriculum experiences ensuring a breadth of choices. General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

Specific Selection Criteria

Approval to teach.

In addition to the general selection criteria,

·             Ability to demonstrate visible and approachable leadership to engage with the entire school community in authentic ways that are culturally sensitive and innovative. 

 

·             Demonstrated capacity to create the enabling conditions of a school excellence model that focuses on the school improvement measures and maximises staff performance and outcomes for all students.

·             Demonstrated capacity to build self and staff capabilities, focusing on the wellbeing of students and staff while valuing a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment.

Conditions

If you have not held a substantive principal position in a NSW Public School at any time in the past five (5) years, you need to have completed the NSW Public School Leadership and Management Credential to be eligible to apply, and you will need to attach a copy of your provisional credential certificate or final credential certificate as part of your application.

 
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is  Principal Level P2 for 2024 and also for 2025.
