Position Information
Hay War Memorial High School (HWMHS) is a comprehensive co-educational school located in the town of Hay in the Riverina region of south-west NSW. The school sits on the land of the Wiradjuri and Nari Nari peoples and has an enrolment of 138 students, which includes 15% of First Nations background. Established in 1923 as a co-educational comprehensive high school and War Memorial, the school has a unique background, a rich history and traditions and close community ties. With its modern facilities and co-location with a TAFE connected learning centre and Countries University Centre, the school is well equipped for future learning.
The school boasts small class sizes, a multicategorical class (MC) and a strong focus on differentiated teaching practices. HWMHS provides enhanced curriculum through the compressed curriculum model for years 11 and 12 alongside Aurora college and Distance Education provisions. There is a strong focus on personalised education, contributing to significant growth in NAPLAN and the HSC. Students at Hay War Memorial High School are provided with an extensive range of sporting, vocational and extra curricula opportunities that foster students to develop into responsible and respectful citizens of our school and wider community.

General Selection Criteria
1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria,
1. Educational leadership that is informed by data, evidence and relational trust to advance teacher improvement, opportunity and professional practice resulting in student improvement.
2. Ability to lead and embed systematic, data-informed improvement cycles, including the planning, implementation and evaluation of initiatives within the School Excellence Plan, driving continuous school improvement.
3. An open-minded and flexible approach to inclusive leadership that fosters authentic engagement with students, staff, families and the broader community.

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Teaching Principal Level P2 for 2025 and Teaching Principal Level P2 for 2026..
