About this job

Position Information

Chalmers Road School delivers differentiated educational programs for students with moderate and severe intellectual disabilities from Kindergarten to Year 12. A number of students have additional learning needs such as physical disabilities, sensory impairments and complex health and behavioural needs. Currently there are 80 students enrolled at Chalmers Road School across 12 classes, with approximately 90% of families having an English as an Additional Language or Dialect.

Every student is supported through a Personalised Learning and Support Plan (PLSP) designed to meet their individual needs and secondary students access Life Skills outcomes and syllabus to prepare them for successful post-school pathways.

Chalmers Road School adopts a multi-disciplinary team approach that includes access to the school’s therapy team and external treating teams. Using the NSW Department of Education’s Care Continuum, interventions are triaged to ensure that resources are allocated in an equitable way, leading to the best outcomes for all students.

Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) underpins the school’s approach to explicitly teaching students to be safe, respectful and caring learners. All staff model and reinforce student behaviour expectations, with a focus on effective communication, social interactions and self-regulation.

Strong links with the school and wider community support student success through varied learning experiences and financial support. The Parents and Citizens Association (P&C) work closely with the school executive to ensure valued collaboration between the school and community.
