Bombala High School is seeking a dynamic and dedicated individual for the position of Principal.

Bombala High School is a small rural comprehensive high school, with a current enrolment of 142 students, located on Ngarigo land, in the southeast of New South Wales at the foothills of the Snowy Mountains.

The school's mission is to provide pathways to success. Bombala High School achieves this through providing quality education in a rural setting by focusing on embedding quality teaching practices that meet the needs of all students. The school is currently undertaking an exciting curriculum reform and introducing a range of integrated subjects designed to improve student engagement at school. Bombala is a picturesque town, benefitting from close access to both south coast beaches and the ski slopes of the Snowy Mountains. The school has developed a strong culture of improvement, achievement, leadership, and citizenship, and provides excellent opportunities for careers, vocational and further education.

The school has excellent facilities including a fully equipped hall, an agriculture plot, modern laboratories, a commercial kitchen, and a trade training centre which offers outstanding facilities for students. General Selection Criteria

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education

2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs

3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community

4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning

5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning

6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people

Specific Selection Criteria

Approval to teach. In addition to the general selection criteria,

  1. Demonstrated experience as a highly visible and approachable leader with skills to engage the entire school community in an agreed shared vision and the effective implementation of a rigorous school improvement agenda. 

  2. Demonstrated expertise to lead evidence based, innovative teaching practice across every classroom which support equitable access to quality learning experiences underpinned by explicit teaching and HPGE. 

  3. Demonstrated capacity to lead meaningful, evidence-based wellbeing programs for staff and students that support inclusive practices and promote positive school culture. 

  4. A proven ability to build and sustain strong partnerships with parents/carers, community members, external stakeholders and key groups including the local Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community to foster and sustain a positive school environment for everyone.

Conditions
An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P2 for 2026.
