Position Information
Stewart House School is a NSW Department of Education School for Specific Purpose. The school works collaboratively with the Stewart House Charity and its partners: NSW Health, Macquarie University, the University of New South Wales, and Teachers Health to deliver a comprehensive program that includes an education and residential program. During their stay, students have access to dental, optical and auditory assessments. The residential component of the program includes overnight and weekend accommodation and activities for students which are the responsibility of employees of the Stewart House Charity, not Department of Education staff.
Stewart House School aims to improve the wellbeing of every student through the provision of a safe and supporting environment and the delivery of an evidence based, flexible education program that is responsive to individual needs. The school provides a short-term intensive, educational wellbeing program for government school children in years 2 to 9. Each year, approximately 1700 students, from all areas of NSW and the ACT, attend Stewart House School from Monday to Friday as part of the twelve-day residential program. Thirty per cent of the student cohort identify as Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander.
The student cohort may include those experiencing economic hardship, geographic isolation and/or a recent crisis. Empowering students to develop skills and strategies that support their own wellbeing is at the core of the school’s program. Consultation and collaboration with the local Gawura AECG assists the school to embed Aboriginal histories, culture and understandings in the program. Teaching and learning aligns with syllabus outcomes and focuses on building and strengthening resilience, self-awareness, emotional regulation and social communication and interaction skills.

1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
Specific Selection Criteria
Approval to teach. In addition to the general selection criteria,
1. Highly visible, collaborative, accessible and inspiring leader who has demonstrated capacity to enhance positive relationships and effective partnerships, in the context of the unique operating model of Stewart House School, to improve the wellbeing of students.
2. Demonstrated capacity to support and continue to develop current and future staff in the context of the unique operating model of Stewart House School.
3. Demonstrated capacity to lead best practice in meeting the complex, diverse and dynamic needs of the Stewart House School student cohort.

Classification Structure for Principals:
The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. Please refer to the information regarding the Classification Structure for Principals.
The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P1 for 2024 and also P1 for 2025.
Applicants are to include details of their WWCC clearance number as part of this application.
