Position Information
Mian School is located in Dubbo, near the centre of town and can cater for up to 28 students in Years 5 to 9. Students access Mian School from primary and secondary schools in Dubbo and Narromine. Mian School has a high population of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander students. Students are enrolled at Mian School through the placement panel process.
Every student at Mian School has a negotiated Individual Education Plan, Personalised Learning Pathway and Individual Behaviour Response Plan. Students are provided with individualised adjustments and differentiation to cater for their individual learning needs.
Mian School is committed to continually improving effective classroom practices with staff professional learning being the key to ensuring this. This learning ensures that both literacy and numeracy levels can be enhanced through improved assessment practices, data collection and improved data analysis. Data is used to support individualised and differentiated learning.
There is a strong focus on whole school community knowledge, understanding and use of effective practices and strategies to support student and staff wellbeing.
General Selection Criteria
1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
Specific Selection Criteria
Approval to teach. In addition to the general selection criteria,
- Ability to lead a focus on future pathways for students to enter the workforce, further education or training to actively engage in life.
- Skills to build high levels of resilience, a strong sense of belonging and cultural identity all within trusting relationships.
- Strong skills and ability to negotiate, influence and establish positive and collaborative partnerships for transformational change.
- Demonstrated leadership skills to strengthen an inclusive and diverse workforce in a highly complex setting.

The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P1 for 2026.
