Position Information
Ivanhoe Central School is a remote and geographically isolated K–12 school located in far-western NSW on the traditional lands of the Barkindji/Ngiyampaa peoples. Ivanhoe is situated approximately 200 km from Hay, 330 km from Griffith, and 230 km from Broken Hill, making the school a central hub for education, wellbeing and community life in the region.
The school has a current enrolment of 29 students: 18 students in K to 6 and 11 students in Years 7–12. Approximately 60% of students identify as Aboriginal, contributing to a strong cultural identity and deep, proud community connections.
As a small and isolated Central School, Ivanhoe Central provides highly personalised, culturally responsive and flexible learning programs across multi-stage classes including links with Wilvandee Access Program. Staff work collaboratively to meet the diverse academic, social, cultural and wellbeing needs of students. Strong partnerships with families, local agencies, and community organisations enhance the school’s ability to provide safe, supportive and high expectation learning environments.

General Selection Criteria
1. High level educational leadership with the skills to lead and manage a complex public school focused on the delivery of high quality education
2. Ability to lead and manage rigorous and inclusive whole school teaching and learning programs
3. High level communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build positive relationships and engage all levels of the school and educational community
4. Ability to lead and manage the development and performance of staff to improve teaching and learning
5. Ability to plan systems and manage resources effectively and equitably to enhance teaching and learning
6. Capacity to lead staff in implementing the Department's Aboriginal education policy and to ensure quality outcomes for Aboriginal people
Specific Selection Criteria
In addition to the general selection criteria, approval to teach infants, primary and/or secondary.
- Proven ability to lead improvements in student learning outcomes by implementing culturally responsive and evidence-based teaching practices, particularly in a rural and remote school context with a high Aboriginal student population.
- Evidence of building and sustaining strong, respectful partnerships with Aboriginal families, the local community, and local stakeholders to support student learning, wellbeing, and cultural inclusion, including community engagement in school decision-making in a rural and remote setting.
- Demonstrated commitment to high-quality teaching and learning through professional learning, coaching and development of staff across a multi-stage K–12 setting.
- Evidence of ability to lead the development, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the School Excellence Plan (SEP), ensuring explicit teaching and data-driven action in literacy, numeracy, wellbeing and attendance.

Classification Structure for Principals:
The Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award 2020 details the new principal classification structure based on complexity of schools which commenced in 2016. The classification and remuneration of our school principals is based on school complexity, as measured through each school’s RAM allocation. As part of the ongoing application of the new structure a review of thresholds and outcomes will occur on an annual basis. The principal classification for this school is Principal Level P1 for 2025 and Principal Level P1 for 2026.
