About this job

About our community

Logan Reserve sits within the broader Logan City corridor — one of the fastest-growing regions between Brisbane and Gold Coast. This growth brings an incredibly rich mix of families and young people, including:

  • First-generation Australian families and newly arrived migrants
  • Established local families with strong community ties
  • Families relocating from metropolitan Brisbane and interstate
  • A broad socio-economic spectrum
  • Students with diverse learning needs, aspirations and pathways

The cultural, linguistic and experiential diversity of the area creates a vibrant learning community from day one.

About this new opportunity

Unlike leading an established school, the foundation principal sets the tone for identity, expectations and narrative.

In a community like Logan Reserve, that means:

  • Establishing high expectations alongside deep relational trust.
  • Creating a school that reflects and elevates the community's strengths.
  • Designing inclusive systems that anticipate growth and complexity.
  • Building pride in a new educational landmark for the region.

The simultaneous development of a P–12 special school on the adjacent site presents an exceptional opportunity for purposeful co-location from the outset.

With both schools being established concurrently in Logan Reserve, there is unique potential to intentionally design shared practices, aligned systems and complementary facilities rather than retrofitting collaboration at a later stage.

Co-location offers the opportunity to build inclusive pathways for students, create shared professional learning between mainstream and specialist staff, and model best practice in inclusive education across both settings.

The wonderful diversity of the Logan corridor is not simply a demographic feature — it is the school's greatest asset.

For the right leader, it offers the chance to build something aspirational, inclusive and future-focused from the ground up.

When a principal is appointed to a new school under construction, the role extends well beyond traditional school leadership. It is both strategic and operational, with a strong establishment focus.

Where your impact will matter

Key tasks and responsibilities will include:

  • Strategic Establishment and Vision for delivering excellence for every student.
  • Develop and articulate the school's vision, values and identity aligned to system priorities.
  • Translate the Brighter Futures strategy into a clear local narrative.
  • Establish the school improvement agenda and initial strategic plan.
  • Shape a school culture that best supports the future large and diverse school community.

Infrastructure and Design Oversight

  • Work closely with project managers, architects and Infrastructure delivery teams during the build.
  • Provide educational input into learning space design (e.g., specialist spaces, accessibility, supervision lines).
  • Ensure facilities support contemporary pedagogy and student engagement.
  • Monitor timelines toward practical completion and readiness to open.
  • Governance and Compliance
  • Ensure alignment with system policy, legislation and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee risk management and contingency planning.
  • Establish operational policies and procedures (student management, WHS, enrolment processes, finance, HR frameworks).

Workforce Planning & Recruitment

  • Design the staffing structure and workforce profile.
  • Lead recruitment of foundation staff.
  • Establish induction processes that build shared expectations and culture.
  • Build leadership capability within the new team.
  • Budget & Resource Establishment.
  • Manage establishment funding and initial resource allocation.
