About the Department of Education:

The North Queensland Region Student, Child and Family Connect team identify and support priortised students who require multi-agency support to engage in continuous schooling. Based in Townsville, the Principal Education Officer, Students in Care reports to the North Queensland Region Principal Advisor Student Protection.

About the role:
As Principal Education Officer, Students in Care, your responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Providing strategic advice to assist in planning for the use of resources to facilitate the equitable delivery of services to Students in Care across the region.
  • Providing specialist operational advice to schools, regional staff and senior officers on the delivery of the Students in Care program including the distribution of resources.
  • Developing and maintaining strategic and innovative partnerships across government, with school communities, and community organisations to ensure all Students in Care achieve quality educational outcomes and partnership initiatives are inclusive of the needs and aspirations of these students.
  • Promoting and monitoring programs and practices, including school-based services, that effectively meet the needs of Students in Care, including Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students, students with learning difficulties, students with disability, poor mental health and those who are geographically isolated.
  • Maintaining data sets and providing data analysis reports to inform practice in the region.
  • Oversee and manage regional Education Support Planning provisions, by monitoring completion rates, school disciplinary absences and exemptions for Students in Care; and representing the department at regional interagency meetings.
