About the Role

As the Deputy Principal Education Officer, you will:

  • Manage activities and operations within Education Services to effectively develop and implement strategic policy and system initiatives and to provide high-quality support and services to secondary and P-12 schools.
  • Assess strategic issues and provide expert advice and support to senior officers, regional and school leaders to enable quality decision making in accordance with departmental policies and procedures and relevant legislation.
  • Lead strategies that foster high quality collaboration, communication and information sharing to enable an understanding of the complexities and challenges that exist in the targeted area to inform local service delivery and system-wide improvement.

Additionally, you may be required to:

  • Undertake the operations of the corporate functions of the region on behalf of the School Supervisors that you support, the Executive Director Regional Operations and the Director Education Services.

About You

The successful applicant will demonstrate:

  • Knowledge of contemporary secondary education and the contemporary policies, procedures and practices that school leadership teams use in this area. This includes supporting schools during critical events.
  • A strong disposition towards collaboratively solving problems with principals and regional colleagues.
  • High levels of verbal and written communication skills with an ability to connect with other teams within schools, region and Central Office.
  • Attention to detail, especially when providing policy and procedure advice and ability to deliver outcomes within tight timelines with multiple competing agendas.
  • A commitment to the regional vision of collective efficacy and an inclusive mindset with an attitude of care and to enable the work of School Supervisors and school leaders.
  • A strong desire to work as part of a high functioning team who value working together to collaboratively support principals.
  • A willingness to learn how the region and the system operates to support the work of schools.
  • A positive, well-organised manner who can work effectively as part of a team that includes School Supervisors, Principal Advisors and Executive Services officers.
  • Experienced leadership within the secondary sector with a strong leadership skill set and a relational manner.
  • They are an aspirant to the Principalship who will benefit from working directly with School Supervisors and other school leaders.

Mandatory Requirements: 

  • You must be a permanent employee of the department with a substantive teaching or classified officer role employed under Teaching in State Education Award – State 2016, have current full registration as a teacher and should be aware that temporary internal moves for the purposes of the department's payroll processes are referred to as internal secondments. 
  • Employees' engaged temporarily as Education Officer - Special Duties have a requirement of 36¼ hours per week attendance and arrangements as outlined in clause 7.4 of the Department of Education State School Teachers Certified Agreement 2019. 
  • When working in regulated employment an employee must have a current Working with Children Clearance (blue card) issued by Blue Card Services.
