The Capability Branch is in the State Schools Strategy Division. The Capability Branch is committed to investing in professional expertise for a confident and professional workforce to deliver what matters for every student. A key function of the Capability Branch is the Education Futures Institute (EFI) that delivers high-quality, targeted and evidence-informed capability development for a multi-disciplinary workforce.

About the Role:

Are you passionate about strengthening leadership in small schools and driving meaningful improvement across the system? In this pivotal role, you'll lead the design and delivery of differentiated programs that elevate small school principalship and enhance system-wide capability. Drawing on your deep understanding of small school principalship, you will shape strategies, frameworks and high‑impact initiatives that directly contribute to improved teaching, learning and school performance. You'll work closely with senior leaders, including Regional Directors, Assistant Directors‑General and Senior Principals Capability, providing expert advice and developing high‑quality resources and programs focused on differentiated support and supervision of small school principals.

As the Principal Education Officer (EOSD), you will play an important role in leading and coordinating the delivery of high-quality professional learning at the Education Futures Institute Central Office. This is an exciting opportunity for a dynamic principal who thrives on collaboration, innovation and impact.

This role is offered on a Temporary Full-time basis until 11 December 2026 unless otherwise determined, and reports to the Senior Principal Capability, EFI Brisbane CBD.

In this Role, you will:

  • Guide the development of systems and processes that monitor, evaluate and continuously enhance project outcomes.
  • Lead and participate in project teams and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure consistent, high‑quality outcomes.
  • Lead the statewide process for the selection and recruitment of small school principals in alignment with targeted capability and induction programs.
  • Partner with a range of internal stakeholders, including Regional Directors and School Supervisors, to lead the development of capability programs and resources for system level roles that provide differentiated support and supervision to small schools.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • Experience as a small school principal is essential.
  • You must be a permanent employee of the department with a substantive teaching or classified officer role employed under Teaching in State Education Award - State 2016, have current full registration as a teacher and should be aware that temporary internal moves for the purposes of the department's payroll processes are referred to as internal secondments.
  • Employees' engaged temporarily as Education Officer - Special Duties have a requirement of 36¼ hours per week attendance and arrangements as outlined in clause 7.4 of the Department of Education State School Teachers Certified Agreement 2019.
