About the Role:

The Principal Advisor, Intensive Support roles are new positions created to support regional and school staff working with students whose behaviour is impacting their continued full-time attendance at school.  The Principal Advisor, Intensive Support works collaboratively with school and regional staff to undertake school-based Functional Behaviour Assessments (FBA), assist in the development of high-quality individual support plans and provide coaching to support staff to implement these plans. 

Working in a statewide team to build statewide capability in Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), the Principal Advisor, Intensive Support position offers the successful applicant an opportunity to maintain regular connection and involvement with schools while also influencing policy design and services. Travel is required in this position to be able to deliver face to face services to school and regional staff.

About You:

The successful applicant will:

  • Provide leadership and advice in the planning and implementation of a MTSS at the regional and school level to support the department's agenda for improvement in schools.
  • Provide project planning and support to assist with the development and implementation of department strategic initiatives. This includes current and emerging Australian Government and State Government initiatives.
  • Provide high level strategic advice to senior officers of the department and other key stakeholders on issues relevant to the specific accountabilities of the role.

Your Responsibilities:

The Principal Advisor, Intensive Support has responsibility for the following:

  • Lead, manage and monitor the success of significant implementation projects, strategies, policies and innovative educational frameworks and communicate with key stakeholders and clients to raise awareness of the impacts of significant milestones, issues and achievements.
  • Provide leadership, policy and project management expertise in relation to significant education and training reform agendas.
  • Collaborate with regional and school teams to align and achieve strategic outcomes under Equity and
  • Identify, research and progress strategic initiatives regarding education and training reform and formulate innovative options and solutions that stimulate and drive community, sector and government agendas.
  • Provide strategic advice to the Minister, Director-General, and senior officers to inform quality executive decision making.
  • Prepare major policy papers, cabinet submissions, briefings, reports on strategic education and training reform initiatives.
  • Implement evaluation and monitoring processes which measure the impact of strategic initiatives and administrative processes to inform current and future agendas.
  • Develop and implement communication strategies for consultation for policy development and implementation and to raise awareness of the outcomes of education and training reforms in the community.
