About the Department of Education:

The Department of Education employs over 120 physiotherapists to support students to be successful in all aspects of their learning. We use our knowledge and skills to enable students to be healthy and successful across the full school experience.  From positioning in the classroom, to school swimming or going on camp our physiotherapists are a key member of a student's educational team.

As part of the Central Queensland service, the Gladstone team provides day visits to schools in the local area including the Boyne Valley, Miriam Vale and Mount Larcom. Telepractice is frequently used to to deliver equity and excellence to students.

 Your Role:

  • Build knowledge of the physiotherapist role in supporting paediatric disability.
  • Establish educational relevant goals with the student and their team.
  • Develop and deliver innovative evidence based models of service delivery.
  • Provide professional development to teachers and teacher aides.
  • Contribute to regional and statewide physiotherapy teams.

Responsibilities include:

  • Forming strategic partnerships with schools, allied health professionals and families.
  • Identify, assess and implement physiotherapy services relevant to the education setting.
  • Providing a consultative service to student's teachers, parents and wider team members.
  • Participate in specialised projects and share practices and resources with other physiotherapists within the department.
  • Travel is a requirement of the role.The Gladstone service includes day trips but overnight travel may be requested as part of the Central Queensland region service
