About the Role

We are seeking a committed and compassionate Outreach Support Worker to join our team at a specialist SEN school.

The Outreach Support Worker plays a key role in supporting students who are educated outside of the main school setting. The successful candidate will work closely with students, families and professionals to ensure pupils remain engaged in their learning and supported in their personal development.

This role requires strong communication skills, the ability to build positive relationships and a commitment to supporting young people with additional needs.

Key Responsibilities

Student Support and Wellbeing

  • Provide emotional, social and academic support to students accessing education outside the school building.

  • Carry out regular check-ins to monitor student wellbeing, engagement and progress.

  • Support the development of tailored plans to meet individual student needs.

  • Attendance and Monitoring

  • Maintain and monitor daily attendance records.

  • Follow up on absence or lateness with parents and carers in line with safeguarding procedures.

  • Produce attendance reports where required.

  • Communication and Partnership Working

  • Act as a key point of contact for students, families and relevant professionals.

  • Maintain regular communication with parents/carers regarding student progress and wellbeing.

  • Liaise with internal staff and external agencies to ensure coordinated support.

  • Reintegration and Support

  • Support students transitioning back into the school setting where appropriate.

  • Assist with individual projects and alternative provision arrangements where required.

  • Personal Development Support

  • Encourage the development of life skills including organisation, time management and goal setting.

  • Support students to access enrichment opportunities and personal development activities.

  • Act as an advocate to ensure students' voices and needs are represented.

  • Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate records of student interactions, support plans and progress.

  • Report any concerns or emerging issues to appropriate staff in line with safeguarding procedures.

  • Safeguarding

    The postholder will be expected to fully comply with national safeguarding guidance including:

  • Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE)

  • Working Together to Safeguard Children

  • The Children Act 1989 and 2004

  • All staff are expected to share responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people.

    Person Specification

    Qualifications

  • GCSE English and Maths (or equivalent)

  • Relevant outreach or support qualification (desirable)

  • Experience

  • Experience supporting children or young people in an educational, pastoral or support role

  • Experience working with students with additional needs, including social, emotional or behavioural challenges

  • Experience working within SEND settings (desirable)

  • Experience communicating with families and professionals

  • Experience working collaboratively within a team

  • Skills and Knowledge

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to build positive and professional relationships

  • Good organisational skills and attention to detail

  • Ability to prioritise workload and respond effectively to emerging issues

  • IT skills including word processing and spreadsheets

  • Understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and data protection

  • Personal Qualities

  • Commitment to supporting the best outcomes for pupils with additional needs

  • Ability to work under pressure and adapt to changing circumstances
