Teaching Assistant - SEMH SupportVeritas Education is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including trauma and mental health challenges, in Doncaster. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people, with both part-time and full-time roles available.
The Role:As a Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside the class teacher to provide high-quality, personalised support for pupils with SEMH, trauma, and mental health challenges. Key responsibilities include:
Supporting a small class of 6-10 pupils, assisting the teacher in creating a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment.Helping to plan and deliver tailored learning activities, focusing on academic achievement and emotional well-being.Offering 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH and trauma, using a trauma-informed approach to cater to their unique needs.Assisting in developing and reinforcing social, emotional, and communication skills, empowering students to build resilience and develop coping strategies.Monitoring students' emotional, behavioural, and academic progress, and providing feedback to the teacher.Supporting the class teacher in managing classroom behaviour and ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.Ideal Candidate:
Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly those with trauma, SEMH, or mental health challenges. (Experience in an educational setting is desirable, but not essential).A strong understanding of trauma-informed care and mental health challenges in children.Patience, empathy, and the ability to stay calm in high-pressure situations.Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues.Experience using behaviour management techniques tailored to meet the emotional and mental health needs of students.The ability to recognise and respond appropriately to pupils' emotional and physical needs.Application Requirements:
