Teaching Assistant - SEMH SupportVeritas Education is seeking a dedicated Teaching Assistant to support students with Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) needs, including trauma and mental health challenges, in Doncaster. This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference in the lives of young people, with both part-time and full-time roles available.

The Role:As a Teaching Assistant, you will work alongside the class teacher to provide high-quality, personalised support for pupils with SEMH, trauma, and mental health challenges. Key responsibilities include:

  • Supporting a small class of 6-10 pupils, assisting the teacher in creating a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment.
  • Helping to plan and deliver tailored learning activities, focusing on academic achievement and emotional well-being.
  • Offering 1:1 and small group support to pupils with SEMH and trauma, using a trauma-informed approach to cater to their unique needs.
  • Assisting in developing and reinforcing social, emotional, and communication skills, empowering students to build resilience and develop coping strategies.
  • Monitoring students' emotional, behavioural, and academic progress, and providing feedback to the teacher.
  • Supporting the class teacher in managing classroom behaviour and ensuring the safety and well-being of all students.
  • Ideal Candidate:

  • Experience working with children with Special Educational Needs (SEN), particularly those with trauma, SEMH, or mental health challenges. (Experience in an educational setting is desirable, but not essential).
  • A strong understanding of trauma-informed care and mental health challenges in children.
  • Patience, empathy, and the ability to stay calm in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues.
  • Experience using behaviour management techniques tailored to meet the emotional and mental health needs of students.
  • The ability to recognise and respond appropriately to pupils' emotional and physical needs.
  • Application Requirements:

  • Experience working with children or adults with Special Educational Needs or mental health challenges.
