About the Role
The Library Assistant plays a key role in supporting the operations of the school's library. In collaboration with the Teacher Librarian, volunteers, parents and staff, the role ensures the efficient and effective management of end-to-end processing of library resources, cataloguing and reference inquiries are kept to a high standard.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct original and copy cataloguing across diverse formats in accordance with SCIS (Schools Catalogue and Information Service) cataloguing standards, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
  • Facilitate comprehensive end-processing for materials in all formats, enhancing accessibility and organization within the collection.
  • Support circulation processes and contribute to overall collection development efforts, including selection, deselection, and stocktaking activities as required.
  • Respond to routine reference inquiries from teachers and students, providing timely and relevant information to support their learning and academic needs.
  • Offer expert guidance on copyright legislation, helping to ensure compliance and promote responsible use of resources.

Qualifications

  • Attained or working towards relevant qualifications, i.e. Diploma or Certificate 3 in Library and Information Services
  • Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) registration.

Selection Criteria

The successful applicant is required to have qualifications, skills or experience in Library administration. Applicants should address the below Selection Criteria. 

  1. The ability to work closely and communicate effectively with school community including but not limited to the Teacher Librarian, volunteers, parents and staff.
  2. The ability to contribute to the effective operation of the Library. 
  3. The ability to undertake administration tasks in the Library including cataloguing, borrowing, asset register and other tasks as required.
  4. The ability to keep information in relation to students, staff and parents/carers within the school community confidential at all times.

  • You must be an Australian Citizen or Permanent Resident to be eligible to apply for this position.
