    About the Role

    As an SEND Intervention Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with class teachers to plan and deliver targeted interventions for pupils across Key Stage 2. You will be a key member of a collaborative team, ensuring that pupils with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) receive the support they need to succeed. Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

  • Supporting pupil progress: Monitor and report on the progress of individual students, providing feedback to the class teacher.
  • Building strong relationships: Establish a nurturing, supportive environment that helps students feel safe, motivated, and ready to learn.
  • Collaborating with colleagues: Work closely with teachers and other professionals to ensure that SEND pupils receive the best possible educational experiences.
  • Adapting teaching strategies: Support the delivery of a differentiated curriculum, tailoring activities to meet the diverse needs of all students.
  • Promoting well-being: Foster the cognitive, social, emotional, behavioural, and physical development of pupils, ensuring their overall well-being.
  • Creating a positive learning environment: Help maintain a safe, structured, and inclusive classroom where pupils feel empowered to succeed.
  • What You Will Need to Succeed

    To be successful in this role, you will need to bring:

  • Relevant qualifications: A qualification in education, childcare, SEN, or equivalent experience, eg: NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Supporting Teaching and Learning, Level 2/3 Certificate in Special Educational Needs, Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning, Autism Awareness (Level 2/3), Speech and Language Support
  • Knowledge of SEND: A good understanding of the needs of pupils with learning difficulties and sensory processing challenges.
  • Adaptability: A flexible approach, with a willingness to learn and adapt to the needs of the pupils and school.
  • Strong communication skills: Excellent interpersonal skills, a positive attitude, and a sense of humour to build rapport with students, staff, and parents.
  • Commitment to safeguarding: A strong dedication to promoting the welfare and safeguarding of children.
  • Practical Experience: Having experience working with children who have special educational needs is highly beneficial. This can come from volunteering, internships, or paid roles in schools or special needs settings.
  • Previous Work in Education: Experience in other educational roles or working with children in any capacity can be helpful, especially if you have worked with children who have behavioral, emotional, or learning difficulties.
