Learning Mentor - Secondary School

We are seeking a dedicated Learning Mentor to join a secondary school in Wandsworth. This role is a great opportunity to make a meaningful impact on students' educational journeys by supporting their academic progress, mental well-being, and overall school experience. The role will be full time, Monday-Friday, and will be to start asap or January 2025.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide 1:1 and small-group mentoring to students, helping them develop strategies to overcome barriers to learning.
  • Support students' mental well-being and welfare, and fostering a positive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Collaborate with teachers, pastoral staff, and families to create tailored interventions that enhance student outcomes.
  • Address behavioural challenges with empathy and effective strategies to promote positive change.
  • This position is not classroom-based but focuses on individualised support and guidance for students. A background in psychology or a related field is highly desirable, and experience working with young people, particularly those with challenging behaviour, is essential.

  • Strong communication, organisational, and administrative skills.
  • The ability to take initiative and manage behaviour effectively.
  • Commitment to supporting students' academic and personal development.
  • Availability to commit to the full academic year.
  • This role is ideal for:

  • Those with previous experience working with young people in an educational or support/mentoring capacity, e.g. as a youth worker.
  • Strong graduates considering a career in education, psychology, or related fields.
