The Leader Psychology Practice leads and supervises a team of Senior Psychologists Education and District Guidance Officers to provide high quality psychology services in NSW public schools.


The Leader Psychology Practice develops and implements strategies to enhance psychology services in schools, including professional development and support for the school counselling workforce. They work closely with schools, other members of education support teams and agencies to improve student learning and wellbeing outcomes.

Wyong High School has an enrolment of 700 students, including 115 Aboriginal students and 11% of students from non-English speaking backgrounds. The school features information technology selective classes with a STEM focus and the cohort includes eight Special Education support classes (four Multi Categorical, two Mild intellectual disability, one Moderate to Severe intellectual disability and one for Emotional Disturbance). Wyong High School has a strong and active Parent and Citizens' Association and Ngara Aboriginal Education Consultative Group that work in partnership with us to support school initiatives. Wyong High School enjoys a mix of both highly experienced and early career teachers and seeks to give an authentic voice to Wyong High School students in the areas of school governance, teaching and learning, wellbeing, community involvement, leadership and learning environments. General Selection Criteria

1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice

2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs

3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams

4. Well developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents

5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning

6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy

Specific Selection Criteria

In addition to the general selection criteria:

  • Demonstrated capacity to lead, clinically supervise and professionally develop senior psychologists’ education and district guidance officers, including professional support in complex case presentations and during serious incidents.
  • Successful experience in leading school counselling service staff to implement evidence-based assessment and intervention approaches including the delivery of innovative counselling services to meet the diverse needs of students across NSW.
  • Extensive understanding of legislation, policy and procedures relating to psychology and wellbeing services in NSW public schools and the standards of the Psychology Board of Australia.
  • Demonstrated experience in leading and implementing Department of Education priorities and initiatives including providing specialist advice to senior officers within the department on matters requiring psychological expertise.
