About this job

Interim Deputy Headteacher | Primary School in the Accrington Area

Leadership Pay Scale L4-L9, depending on experienceYear 6 class teaching with dedicated leadership release timeExclusively managed by Veritas Education

If you love being in the classroom and want the opportunity to make a difference across a whole school, this interim deputy headship gives you the chance to do both.

Veritas Education is working exclusively with a welcoming primary school at the heart of its local community in the Accrington area. It's a school with fabulous children, a team that pulls together and a supportive senior leadership team. You'll have colleagues to share ideas with, the backing of the Headteacher and dedicated time away from the classroom to lead on Pupil Premium and Inclusion.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced senior leader looking for a fresh challenge or an aspirational middle leader ready to take the next step into senior leadership. You'll get to know the school through your own Year 6 class and use what you learn in the classroom to shape decisions that benefit pupils across the school.

What you'll do

  • Teach a Year 6 class. Deliver engaging lessons, build pupils' confidence in their final year of primary school and help them prepare for the move to secondary school.

  • Work alongside the Headteacher and SLT. Help shape school improvement priorities, support the day-to-day running of the school and work with colleagues to put plans into practice.

  • Lead the Pupil Premium strategy. Identify the barriers disadvantaged pupils face, agree where resources can make the most difference and review the impact of that support.

  • Champion inclusion. Work with the SENCO, teachers, support staff and families to help pupils with SEND and those facing other barriers access learning and take part fully in school life.

  • Support and develop colleagues. Model effective classroom practice, share ideas and help staff use assessment to decide what pupils need next.

  • Who we're looking for

  • A qualified primary teacher with QTS and strong Key Stage 2 experience. Recent Year 6 experience would be an advantage.

  • An experienced senior leader or an ambitious middle leader who can show how they've improved teaching, provision or pupil outcomes beyond their own classroom.

  • A collaborative leader who enjoys working with staff and families and understands how to turn inclusion and Pupil Premium priorities into practical support for children.

  • Apply or arrange a confidential conversation
