About St Mary MacKillop College 

St Mary MacKillop College is Canberra’s largest secondary school, operating across two campuses. Years 7 to 9 are based on the Padua Campus (Wanniassa) and Years 10 to 12 are based on the St Peter’s Campus (Isabella Plains). About the Role 

St Mary MacKillop Catholic College is firmly committed to fostering an inclusive educational environment where every student has the potential to succeed. The Inclusive Education Coordinators are critical to this commitment. They lead a team of Classroom support Teachers and Classroom Support Assistants in the development, implementation and evaluation of inclusive education practices which promote a range of approaches for learning and differentiation to support the diverse learning needs of all students. They provide guidance, direction and support to teachers to enhance their capacity to develop appropriate curriculum materials in all learning areas.

The Inclusive Education Coordinator is a member of the Curriculum Leadership Team responsible to the Principal through the Assistant Principal Academic Care for the leadership of Inclusive Education, in accordance with College policies. MacKillop is moving to a model of appointing three Inclusive Education Coordinators, with responsibilities for:

  • Transitions from primary school to Year 7 and Year level support of Years 7 and 8.
  • Year level support of Years 9 and 10 and student transitions between the Colleges two campuses.
  • Support for students in Years 11 and 12.

The successful candidates will bring excellent teaching skills as well as exceptional knowledge of Inclusive Educational practices.

Key Responsibilities 

  • Develop, implement, and monitor inclusive education practices and processes which promote access to all learning areas across Years 7 to 12 curriculum spaces.
  • Manage a team of Classroom Support Assistants (CSAs), guiding them in the prescribed practices of the College. Provide direct instruction and feedback to the Classroom Support Assistants as required.
  • Demonstrate curriculum leadership within the College by developing effective programs of study, interventions and enrichments and ensuring that these are based on principles of inclusivity and equity.
  • Utilise data to track student progress and development and assess the effectiveness of inclusive education strategies
  • Build and maintain a deep professional knowledge about the compliance aspects affecting inclusion within the College, and the current priorities in research within this areas.
  • Effectively collaborate with the Teaching and Learning Coordinators,  Padua Head of Campus and St Peter’s Head of Campus to support students with Personalised Learning Plans.
  • Work with and support classroom teachers, enabling them to respond appropriately to individual circumstances and situations.
  • Work with relevant staff and other members of the community, to manage departmental processes for example, staff and student allocations, excursions, and the purchase of resources.
  • Ensure effective administrative processes in the department, including holding productive meetings, and maintaining accurate records

Qualifications  

  • Bachelor of Teaching or Master of Teaching
  • Working with Vulnerable People (WWVP) and Working with Children’s Check (WWCC) registrations.
  • Teaching Quality Institute (TQI) accreditation and/or NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) accreditation.

Selection Criteria 

  1. A comprehensive understanding of Catalyst initiatives and High Impact Teaching Practices and the need to provide appropriate support and feedback to teaching staff.
  2. A thorough knowledge of the Australian Curriculum with the ability to organise, select and design content for effective teaching and learning within the classroom and across the school.
  3. Demonstrated capability to coordinate a teaching team effectively, to supervise staff across different subject areas, to promote their own and the department’s professional development and to work with the staff to effect change.
  4. Demonstrated excellence in verbal and written communication skills.  This includes high-level mediation and conflict resolution skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to build community.
  5. The ability to exercise sound judgment, including dealing with confidential matters.
