About the role -
The IDT Classroom Support Senior Officer provides practical and administrative support to the Curriculum Middle Leader and teachers in the delivery of Industrial Design and Technology related practical subjects. The role holder will be involved in a range of tasks in the workshops under the direct and general supervision of the classroom teacher. The IDT Classroom Support Senior Officer operates within the Catholic educational environment and culture and will be supportive of the Catholic ethos and Mission of the College.

Typical duties performed include, but are not limited to:

  • Under direct and/or broad guidance, assist the classroom teacher with student learning activities including ‘lesson ready’ set up and end of lesson pack up of equipment, machinery and resources
  • With guidance from the classroom teacher, support the set routines for classroom activities including the wearing of Personal Protective Equipment, Safe Operating Procedures for machinery and equipment, safe use of hazardous substances and adherence to safety exclusion zones
  • Assist the classroom teacher with strategies to meet the learning needs of students identified as having special needs
  • Assist with the supervision of students during practical lessons
  • Provide instruction in the safe operation of machinery and equipment including practical demonstrations
  • Monitor stock levels and provide advice to the classroom teacher when resources require restocking
  • Responsible for the maintenance of tools, machinery, equipment and resources
  • Provide advice to the classroom teacher on the selection of appropriate equipment and machinery
  • Assist with the annual stocktake of resource
  • Assist with the maintenance of Work Health and Safety registers for hazardous substances and equipment maintenance including ensuring that safety signage is current and in place
  • Maintain a clean and tidy workshop environment including storage facilities allocated to the workshop
  • Support a relief teacher during the absence of the regular classroom teacher
  • Other appropriate tasks as directed/requested by the classroom teacher or College Leadership

About you - you should demonstrate:
  • Ability to organise time and prioritise tasks;
  • Good communication skills with both students and adults;
  • Ability to accept direction but also exercise initiative when appropriate;
  • Ability to provide practical assistance and guidance to students during practical lessons;
  • Flexibility – able to work within the dynamic nature of a practical subject area;
  • Competency in the safe operation and maintenance of workshop equipment and machinery;
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all matters relating to the role;
  • Ability to provide support to students with special needs either under the direction or supervision of the classroom teacher; and
  • Knowledge of Work Health and Safety practices and procedures relevant to a practical workshop.

  • hold a Paid Employee Positive Notice Blue Card prior to commencement;
  • be eligible to work in Australia for the duration of the appointment; and
  • have a commitment to and understanding of the ethos and traditions of Catholic Education.
