Position Information

Ryde Public School is located in the heart of the city of Ryde. The school is set on large grounds with buildings that reflect the long history of the school. Sandstone buildings and modern classes blend to provide 21st Century learning environments. The students at Ryde Public School enjoy a holistic education that provides opportunities in the arts, sport and academics and nurtures social and emotional development. Staff at Ryde Public School support a diverse range of learners. The students in the mainstream classes learn together with the 4 Support Classes (2 MC, 1AU and 1IM) and 2 Gifted and Talented (OC) classes. The school facilitates the North Learning Centre (Suspension Centre) where staff in this centre support mostly high school students who require assistance to reflect on and understand their behaviour. Increased urban renewal and development in Ryde is supporting the growth in enrolments with current enrolment of 511 students. The school community reflects the rich cultural diversity of the city of Ryde. The school is proud that many families have their first Australian school experience at Ryde. Over 86% of enrolments are from language backgrounds other than English and over fifty language backgrounds are represented in our school population.

General Selection Criteria
1. Successful teaching experience with capacity to initiate improvement in teaching, learning and classroom practice
2. Knowledge of curriculum, assessment and student welfare with the ability to lead and design quality, inclusive teaching and learning programs
3. Educational leadership skills to build the capacity and manage the performance of individuals and teams
4. Well-developed communication and interpersonal skills with the capacity to build relationships and engage students, staff and parents
5. Ability to plan and manage resources effectively and equitably to support teaching and learning
6. Knowledge of and commitment to the Department's Aboriginal education policy
Specific Selection Criteria
Applicants must satisfy the teacher training and academic qualification requirements for this position. In addition to the general selection criteria, 

1. Understanding the educational implications for schools meeting the needs of students from diverse backgrounds

2. Demonstrated experience in supporting students who exhibit challenging behaviours.


3. Capacity to collaborate with specialist personnel to ensure relevant management plans are developed for implementation, in order to support the return to mainstream schooling.


4. Demonstrated experience and ability in sourcing suitable programs and initiatives that support student learning and behaviour management.

Conditions

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
