Position Information
Hurlstone Agricultural High School has an enrolment of 964 students, including 4 Aboriginal students and 1 Torres Strait Islander student and 219 English as an additional language or dialect language students (EAL/D). Hurlstone Agricultural High School is the only NSW Government that is fully selective, coeducational, agricultural, and boarding high school. It is located in Glenfield, 36 km south west of the Sydney central business district. The school is situated next to Glenfield Train Station. The school nurtures the whole child in an inclusive environment where high potential and gifted learners are known, valued and cared for. Student voice is active and dynamic. Students give back to the community in numerous ways including extensive extra-curricular programs in the Creative and Performing Arts (CAPA), Sports, Agricultural, Student Representative Council (SRC), Interact, Student Union, Enviro Club, debating, Model United Nations Assembly (MUNA), Solar Car, mentoring and other leadership development programs highlighted by an exceptional student leadership body. The school is strongly supported by an engaged and active Parents and Citizens' Association, Boarder Parent Welfare and alumni network.
Due to Hurlstone Agricultural High School's unique coeducational, residential setting, the role requirement includes that the successful applicant has a specific portfolio that supports female students in the boarding school, including supervision and visible presence in the female student residential areas. An agricultural high school allowance is provided called head teacher (welfare) residential allowance. This is detailed in the Crown Employees (Teachers in Schools and Related Employees) Salaries and Conditions Award (2022), in particular, Schedule 11 - Special Conditions Covering Teachers at Residential Agricultural High Schools.
The successful head teacher welfare works with the substantive head teacher welfare (male) to lead and oversee student wellbeing and welfare matters including programs, priorities, processes and people in the day school and the boarding/ residential school. Please note the advertised position does not currently require the successful applicant to reside/ live in the boarding school.

An unconditional full approval to teach is a requirement. If you do not hold a full approval to teach with the NSW Department of Education, you are required to commence the application process at the same time as you apply for this teaching opportunity.
